The Life We (Sub)[Consciously] Choose
In today’s article we cover the power of the subconscious mind and its role in our decision making processes. Here, we highlight the fact that we are already living the life we choose, but mainly at a subconscious level.
Let’s take a moment to look at our lives and notice how much of our choices reflect the belief systems handed down to us by our parents, culture and ancestry. What amount of our decision making is automatic and does this leave any room for positive growth or change?
Research suggests that 92% of our daily thoughts and actions arise from the subconscious mind. For many of us these stats are surprising; but understanding this daily ratio of thought can be very empowering!
The subconscious mind is our inbuilt safety net, an incredible survival mechanism that draws upon strategies that worked from our past experiences, even those developed in childhood, to navigate present-day challenges.
So even if a particular strategy to stay safe was created by our childhood selves, the subconscious only looks at the outcome - you stayed alive and safe - and then serves this up as our present-day strategy in the crucial moment of choice.
Most importantly, the subconscious measures success by surviving, not by thriving. So, great news, you are alive and safe - but are you safe and well?
When we commit to change, we often rely upon our conscious motivation to get us there - sheer will and determination - which can be powerful. But, the reality is that if the subconscious mind is not on board with the change we want to make, our chances of long-term success are hampered.
In this realisation, we can pause for a moment of pure self compassion for all the times we tried to create change and fell flat. How can we really get where we want to be if our subconscious mind, which rules the roost for 92% of our day, is shouting ‘no’ and we can’t hear it? You might ask why our subconscious mind would say “no” when what we want to move towards is a positive, healthy and life expanding change?
Consider that simply being a new version of yourself may feel unsafe to the subconscious mind. What if, on a subconscious level, you don’t feel worthy of all the benefits that positive change may bring? What if migraines, exhaustion, or illness are the only signals your subconscious sends that are heard, so that you finally shut the door and rest? What if deep down you’ve been taught that struggle and suffering is the only path to enlightenment or success?
So how can we access what the subconscious mind is thinking when, by its very nature, it is completely SUBconscious? If these patterns and beliefs are not known to our conscious selves, how can we make a change? That’s where Kinesiology can help.
In a Kinesiology session, I’ll guide you through a simple yet powerful process where your conscious and subconscious minds can reconnect and “talk.” There’s an opportunity to gently “ask” the subconscious how it feels about the change you want to make and whether it’s ready to implement new strategies. If there’s resistance in a particular life area, that’s not a problem, it’s an invitation to listen and to heal. When integrated with your creative conscious mind, alignment occurs and everything shifts. Now it’s not just a mere 8% willpower pushing forward — it’s a full 100% on board, integrated, creative and powerful mind lighting the way. Bingo!
Welcome to a life you consciously choose.
