All Roads Are Good: What happens when we let our emotions lead the way?

When thinking about our emotions, we often label them as positive or negative. The so-called negative feelings can make us uncomfortable, feel diminished, or lead us to judge ourselves harshly. Positive emotions, by contrast, are life affirming and energising — a welcome relief from everyday stress.

But what if “negative” or uncomfortable emotions are actually signposts—signals pointing toward a need or desire for change? By staying present with the emotion and its context, we can begin to identify what’s truly being called for. When we seek out and create that change, we form a powerful partnership with the body.

“Positive” emotions, too, serve as signals—a way of saying “More of this, please.” They let us know we’re on the right track. By noting what sparks uplifting feelings, we give ourselves permission and the awareness to create more joy and fulfilment in our lives.

Emotions, in all their complexity, are also invitations to be fully present to the road we are on, or the path we’re choosing. They guide our attention to what is happening right now, encouraging us to work directly with the moment, creating the freedom to make change.

When we deny or suppress our emotions, we deny what is unfolding in the present. We deny our truth. The mind-body then replays the unresolved emotion in the future, through rumination, restlessness or sleeplessness. Over time, this unresolved energy can lead to a persistent sense of depletion or low mood. Often, only after prolonged discomfort do we finally summon the courage to explore the root cause.

In contrast, when we honour our emotions as they arise, we engage in a conscious partnership with the body and the embodied spirit. This alignment helps us walk our path with greater clarity, presence, and freedom to choose our life direction.

Emotions are a call to balance, a signal towards harmony and progress, if we choose to listen and answer that call.

In her groundbreaking book, Molecules of Emotion, Candace Pert shows that our feelings are more than just fleeting experiences—they are deeply embedded in the body’s chemistry, shaping our physical and emotional health in profound ways.

Karla McLaren explains in great detail in her book The Language of Emotions, how emotions are a vital source of wisdom and guidance. She offers up key insights into each core emotion’s specific message.

PKP (Professional Kinesiology Practice) aligns with this understanding. Each session offers a structured, client-centred process to identify and clear the emotional, energetic, and physiological blocks that keep us stuck. Using gentle muscle testing and holistic techniques, PKP can guide you to:

  • Listen to what your emotions are really trying to tell you

  • Rebalance stress responses at a cellular and energetic level

  • Reconnect with your body’s own healing wisdom

  • Move toward greater resilience, clarity, and wellbeing

Whether you’re navigating stress, overwhelm, or simply feeling off track, Avalon Kinesiology can support you to come back into balance—physically, emotionally, and on a cellular level.

We no longer need suppress or ignore our emotions as a way of getting by or pushing through life’s challenges. We can opt to create a supported opportunity to work with them—and in partnership with the body—to choose life direction and create lasting change.
